Dwyane Wade and Dwight Howard were expecting to face off versus one another this upcoming season. Looks like we won’t have to wait til the Heat’s home opener against Orlando to see this happen.
It has recently been announced that both Wade and Howard will be going up against one another on Gatorade’s “REPLAY 3″ game September 10th.
The Gatorade REPLAY series stages re-matches of classic games between some of the nation’s best high school sports teams that have ended in because of a controversial play.
Gatorade brings in professionals for the games to serve as honorary coaches. In the first year of Gatorade REPLAY they brought in Peyton and Eli Manning. For “REPLAY 2″ they had Scotty Bowman and Brendan Shannahan as the Coaches for a hockey rematch.
This years showdown will feature Wade and Howard serving as coaches for the opposing rivals. How great would it be if there’s five seconds left in a one point game and Wade calls a timeout to sub himself in. It won’t happen but that would be pretty funny.
This is a great concept. Anyone that ever saw the movie “The Best of Times” knows how a person can hold on to the torment of a dropped ball in a big game that forever alters your legacy and peace of mind.
The REPLAY series gives such individuals a chance to make right a referee or umpires bad call. It gives the opposing teams a chance to either rewrite history or cement it.
This years Gatorade REPLAY will revolve around Brother Rice and Bloom; two former Illinois high school basketball powerhouses.
The 2000 super sectional game between the two “ended in controversy after a questionable last second tip-in at the buzzer which gave Bloom the victory.”
To prepare for the game, players from both teams have been undergoing a rigorous eight week training program that is set up and monitored by the Gatorade Sports Performance Center.
It may be ten years since the game was originally played but that hasn’t deterred either side from taking this rematch as a legitimate challenge.
We’ve been taking our training and nutrition regime very seriously because we know Bloom will bring it on the 10th and we need to be ready to perform at a high level,” Mark Telander, guard of Brother Rice said. “We hope fans of both teams come out and cheer us on, but I won’t lie, I hope there is more maroon and orange than blue and white in the bleachers at St. Xavier on game day.”
The rematch will take place at Chicago’s St. Xavier University’s Shannon Center on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
The game will also be streamed live on the official Gatorade REPLAY website (link for the game)
