So…uh…What Exactly Happened On That Tony Parker Shot?
By Jae Bradley
Tony Parker gets up, and shoots, with 1.0 seconds left on the shot clock. I don’t know if Tony Parker practices this, but I have rarely seen a player fall down, get back up, and then shoot (not to mention double-clutch the ball) so quickly. It’s like LeBron wasn’t even there. I mean, I don’t think LeBron even thought Tony Parker had a chance of making that shot.
If you watch replays, LeBron gets his left hand on the ball, but doesn’t yank the ball, or try to alter it in any way — he basically says, “Look, you fell down, got up, are shooting off-balance, and I just put my hand on the ball. There’s no way you’re making this shot, and I don’t want to risk getting called for a foul. So I’m going to let you shoot this and miss, and then hit the game-tying basket. Ok?”
Unfortunately, Tony Parker made the shot.
Whoops.
