Dwyane Wade Injury Updates: Hopeful vs New York Knicks

Updates on the health of Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade.

UPDATE: 11/30

After missing seven-straight games with a hamstring injury, Dwyane Wade is hopeful to return to the Miami Heat’s lineup vs the New York Knicks Sunday.

Via Ira Winderman, South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

"After missing seven straight games because of a strained hamstring, he took another step toward his return. Wade went through a full practice Friday for the first time since sustaining the injury.Still, he refuses to get ahead of himself. Wade remains listed as day-to-day but hopeful for Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks."

UPDATE: 11/25

Both Dwyane Wade and Chris Andersen will sit out the Miami Heat’s game against the Golden State Warriors Tuesday. Norris Cole is expected to return to the starting lineup. It is Wade’s seventh-straight missed game.

UPDATE: 11/23

Dwyane Wade will miss his sixth-straight game when he sits out against the Charlotte Hornets as he continues to recover from a strained hamstring. Norris Cole will miss his second game after sitting out Saturday’s game vs the Magic with a dislocated finger.

UPDATE: 11/22

Dwyane Wade will miss his fifth-straight game against the Orlando Magic Saturday as he continues to recover from a strained hamstring. Norris Cole is also out with a dislocated finger.

UPDATE: 11/20

Dwyane Wade will miss his fourth-straight game against the Los Angeles Clippers Thursday night, the team announced.

The Heat won their first game of the season without Wade Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets.

UPDATE: 11/17  Dwyane Wade won’t be available against the Brooklyn Nets Monday. He will be held out for the third-straight game as he recovers from his hamstring strain, the team announced.

Miami is 0-2 without Wade, and have sorely missed his post play. Wade’s iso’s in the post and his distribution from it create easy looks for teammates. Without him, the ball movement is much more perimeter oriented and the Heat lack play makers at that position who can create shots with consistency. It doesn’t help that Chris Bosh is in a slump, either. Bosh is 12-of-49 and 3-of-22 from 3-point range in his last three games. The Heat will at least need him to come out of his slump if they will get back to their winning ways Monday vs the Nets.

UPDATE: 11/16

While the Miami Heat managed to score more than 100 points in Dwyane Wade’s first absence of the season Friday against the Atlanta Hawks, they did miss his presence on defense. Wade has an understanding for Miami’s blitz-and-help scheme, and the Heat have up a ton of 3’s to the Hawks because of poor perimeter defense.

Unfortunately for the Heat, Wade will miss his second-straight game as he continues to recover from an aggravated hamstring. Meanwhile, Josh McRoberts will also be inactive as he deals with a blister on his foot.

After a strong start, Dwyane Wade will miss his first game of the season when he sits out Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks with a hamstring injury he sustained in the Miami Heat’s loss to the Indiana Pacers Wednesday night.

Via Ira Winderman for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

"“For me, obviously I want to play as many games as possible,” he said Friday. “As I said before, you can’t control certain things. I’ve had worse. I’ll be back out there soon enough. Just when I come back, I want to be able to play the way I was playing the way before, and not hampered like I was the other night.”“I sprinted to get the layup and just strained my hamstring,” he said. “Obviously, I could play through stuff, so I played through it, finished the game, obviously. But, yeah, second play of the game.”"

Head coach Erik Spoelstra downplayed the injury.

"“It’s just the season,” he said. “He’s been working a lot. So, it’s nothing major right now. We just want to be smart about it. It’s more of an accumulation. Early in the season, we have to be smart about all this.”"

Wade missed 28 games last season mostly as a part of his maintenance program. Nine of those misses were because of his hamstring. He isn’t part of a maintenance program this season, and has played in three back-to-backs already.

"“I got to be smart. And then we’ve got two games coming up this weekend, so I’m able to reevaluate,” he said, with a back-to-back up next starting Sunday against the visiting Milwaukee Bucks and then Monday against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center. “Right now, it’s simply just day to day. I’m going to do what’s best for the team. I thought the other night was best for me to keep playing through it and give ourselves a chance to win. It’s just not smart for me to try to push it.”"

As long as it’s not the knee, we can breath. A hamstring is a common sports injury, and Wade being careful is probably more related to his age than it is his knee issues, though I’m sure it has a bit to do with both. I wouldn’t worry too much about this, Heat fans. It’s not the glass knee, though it doesn’t sound like Wade is going to rush to get back.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Heat play without Wade’s scoring and facilitating, or if the Heat can even out do the offensive output of Wednesday’s loss.
