We haven’t even gotten to the NBA Draft lottery (on May 20) but with no post-season and a chance at a top 10 pick, this is rare waters for Miami Heat.
The Heat are probably the most complete team in the lottery, with a championship framework and nice starting lineup. Its poor season was more due to attrition and injury than a lack of talent and coaching.
In the draft, the Heat have the luxury of not having to find its star player. Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside is enough to battle for that throne. They are in a position to take the best player available, or pad its depth for now and the future.
The Heat, currently slotted at no. 10 overall prior to the lottery, also have about a four percent chance to luck into a top-three pick. For the sake of this exercise, we’ll be assuming the Heat have the 10th pick. It’s early, but not too early to start an NBA Draft wish list.
