Game recap for the Miami Heat vs the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 28.
The Miami Heat (18-12) blew a 58-44 halftime lead on Monday night, falling 111-105 to the Brooklyn Nets (9-22), unable to keep up their winning streak. The Heat, who went on a 14-2 run to close out the first half, completely fell apart at the start of the third quarter and were unable to make up for it down the line.
Both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh scored 24 points (on a career high 5-of-5 in 3-point shooting), with Bosh grabbing 12 rebounds and Wade dishing out 6 assists. Hassan Whiteside also had a good game, finishing with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. However, their efforts were not enough to keep the entire team afloat.
Miami totaled 14 turnovers on the night, and were out-rebounded, 42-50.
The Nets also had the Heat beat on 3-point shooting, as they shot 52.2 percent compared to Miami’s 41.7 percent. And Wayne Ellington played a huge part in that: he finished the evening with a season-high 26 points, on 7-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.
Brook Lopez also posed a problem for the Heat, with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 2 steals.
Two and a half stars
The first half of this game went well for Miami. Although the pace seemed a little bit rushed early on, head coach Erik Spoelstra was able to get a good rhythm going for his team. The shots taken were smart, and minus a few mistakes here and there (i.e. Whiteside being called for goal-tending on Goran Dragic’s basket), the Heat seemed like they had it in the bag. Wade and Bosh both came out strong, and Dragic was able to feed them both some clutch shots.
However, the second half of the night was a total disaster, as if it was a completely different team out there on the court.
Not only did nothing drop, but the shot selection was poor. And most (if not all) defense went out of the window. To say they went cold, would be an understatement.
Wade helped the Heat get within four on a dunk with 41 seconds left, but it was not enough to pull off a win.
