Detroit Pistons
The Heat have already played the Pistons twice this season, unfortunately resulting in two losses. In November, Miami lost 104-81 after Andre Drummond totaled 18 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks. The Heat also fell short 93-92 in December, as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hit a jumper with 55.5 seconds left on the clock.
Detroit, currently sitting eighth in the East with a 41-36 record, is three wins away from securing a playoff spot. The team has five more games to play, facing the Magic, the Washington Wizards and the Cleveland Cavaliers, alongside the two Heat matchups.
But although the Pistons are barely hanging on to that No. 8 spot, they should not be overlooked.
For starters, Caldwell-Pope is the real deal.
Coming in fourth the in the league for minutes played, the 23-year-old is averaging 14.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists a game.
Detroit also is getting a taste of the postseason for the first time in six years, motivating the team towards success.
On paper, Miami should have no trouble getting both wins. But because of how important these last few games are for the Pistons and given that the Heat’s track record against them this year is not good, a battle (or two) may brew.
