It was never supposed to end like this, but here we are. Dwyane Wade is no longer on the Miami Heat, and someone is to blame.

After 13 seasons, three championships and countless memories, followed by negotiations, meetings, miscommunication, feelings of disrespect and finally a breaking point, Dwyane Wade is no longer on the Miami Heat.

That is to say, he no longer plays for them. Dwyane Wade will always be the Miami Heat. A true Heat Lifer, even if he’s donning a different jersey for now. Wade is the greatest South Florida sports figure ever, but the era is over.

As we try to move on and sift through these feelings, one thing is for sure: It wasn’t supposed to end like this. Wade should have retired with the one team he’s played his entire career until now with.

At the very least, the break up shouldn’t have been over something like respect. It wasn’t about money (not really, anyway). It wasn’t ring chasing.

The relationship between Wade and the Heat soured, and someone is to blame.
