The deal: One year, $4 million dollars

Analysis: Brining back UD is smart on multiple levels. First, with Wade gone and Bosh uncertain, and with so many new players, UD is the caretaker of the Heat culture on the court. UD’s leadership is unquestioned and he has the toughness and street cred to reign in even the most flamboyant personalities. Second, losing Wade damaged the Heat lifer brand. Retaining UD at above market rate helps repair the damage. Finally, in short bursts, UD can still play. He will do the little things, like take charges and scrap for rebounds, or scrap with other players. Every team needs an enforcer and for the Heat, that is UD. Young players can look to him as the penultimate example of a Heat player.

On-court Impact: Meh.

Grade: A. (For off court reasons)

Next: Wayne Ellington
