4. Play The Mentor Role

Yes, Whiteside can sometimes act like a rather large child. And sure, he still has some growing up to do. But it would be a shame not to label Whiteside capable of being a mentor at this point in his career.

Having gone through a lot to finally find a solid place to call home, he should absolutely use his experiences to enlighten the younger players on the team. Whether it is regarding how to ensure a long-term successful career, or how not to give up when times are tough, Whiteside should be someone guys like Justise Winslow and Josh Richardson look up to.

Not to mention, have you seen his numbers? There is clearly a lot of on-court teaching Whiteside can do as well.

The faster both fans and the media drop the “kid” label associated with Whiteside, the sooner not only the organization but he himself, will be able to discover the role of a mentor.
