6 players who could be available when the Heat pick at No. 14
By Wes Goldberg
Ike Anigbogu, C, UCLA
Age: 18
Height: 6-foot-10
Wingspan: 7-foot-6
Weight: 252 pounds
Pros:
- Rare physical specimen with long arms and NBA-ready frame despite not yet being 19 years old.
- Runs the floor well and will be a threat in the lob game.
- Can rebound and defend the rim right now.
- Athletic and quick at his position, with the potential to switch onto opposing wings.
Cons:
- Suffered a torn meniscus and sprained foot during the season, so he has to check out medically.
- Lacks shooting touch and likely won’t ever become a floor spacer.
- Not adept at passing out of the post.
- Could get into foul trouble often.
Lowdown:
If all of the better perimeter players are off the board, the Heat could opt to draft its backup center of the future. With Hassan Whiteside and Willie Reed last season, Miami often played 48 full minutes with rim protection on the floor. If Reed leaves as a free agent this summer, the Heat could be hard pressed to find similar production through free agency. Finding a talent like Anigbogu here would be a value play.
