Former Boston Celtic Kelly Olynyk will sign a four year deal to join the Miami Heat.
The Miami Heat have agreed to sign Kelly Olynyk to a four-year $50 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Over the course of his four year career Olynyk has averaged 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 20.5 minutes per game.
Olynyk is best known for his ability to space the floor. The seven footer is a prototypical stretch-4/5 who has connected on 36.8% of his three point attempts. Last year, Olynyk averaged 58.1% on corner threes. Olynyk’s perimeter game should fit in well with the Heat’s pace and space offense.
Olynyk found himself an unrestricted free agent after the Celtics renounced their rights to make room for Gordon Hayward. Several teams immediately expressed interest in Olynyk, but ultimately the lure of Pat Riley, South Beach, and $50 million proved too enticing.
Olynyk showed flashes of being special last year, most notably in his game seven performance against the Washington Wizards.
Olynyk should slot in to Miami’s lineup as a stretch-4 and play next to Hassan Whiteside in the front court. He could play center is small ball lineups, too.
Under the tutelage of coach Spoelstra and the legendary Miami Heat training staff, Olynyk will be a player to watch next season.
