Goran Dragic has been holding the Miami Heat down for years, and now it’s time for him to finally become an All-Star.

This season, Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic is making as strong a case as ever, to be named an All-Star for the first time ever in his career. He currently holds the title of Eastern Conference Player of the Week, after averaging 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists while shooting 50 percent from the field, and 46 percent from beyond the arc. For the season, he’s averaging a more than respectable 17.3 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds a game.

Interestingly, he has now won the Player of the Week award twice this season, one of only four players to do so. Those other three players? LeBron James, DeMar DeRozan, and Victor Oladipo, all certain to be All-Stars.

The case for Dragic to make the All-Star game is fairly simple. He has continued to carry the torch as the Miami Heat’s star, as Hassan Whiteside has missed time with various injuries. He’s also been the most consistent player on one of the Eastern Conference’s best teams. The East’s other big name point guards (Kyle Lowry, John Wall, Isaiah Thomas) have all missed a significant amount time with injury, while Dragic has only missed three games.

Ultimately, it’s going to be up to the Eastern Conference coaches to decide whether Dragic is worthy.

His team isn’t as successful as say Lowry and the Toronto Raptors. And he isn’t as flashy as Wall of the Washington Wizards. But he certainly finds himself somewhere in the middle, given those critieria.

If there was ever a time to give the exhibition a new feel, it is now, with both the league’s new format and budding new faces. Dragic has been extremely consistent and definitely worthy of the recognition.

Even former face of the franchise Dwyane Wade, is pulling for his past teammate to be given the recognition he deserves.

Sounds like the man knows what he’s talking about.
