Maybe it’s time for fans to start asking the Miami Heat some tough questions.

In the two-month span since the NBA has entered its free agency period, Miami Heat fans have gotten answers to some of their most pertinent questions.

Regarding the team’s multi-million-dollar men, Hassan Whiteside and Tyler Johnson, neither has been exempt from trade considerations.

Despite receiving huge contracts in 2016, Johnson and Whiteside underperformed in 2017-18, leaving asterisks around Miami’s long-term commitment to the duo.

While both have been shopped around, team president Pat Riley has made clear that he has no intentions of swapping them for suboptimal returns.

At the end of last season, Riley acknowledged Miami’s spending habits while insisting that the team is not a lost cause.

"“We are going to be a very, very competitive team, and I do hope that through the continuity and the belief that we have in this roster, that they’ll be better.” He added, “You can’t just keep ripping things up every year and changing your roster, and so continuity is important.”"

Continuity ended up being the theme of the summer.

Nearly all of Miami’s roster from last year, Whiteside and Johnson included, will report for training camp in September.

Miami has even gone the distance to re-recruit familiar names in Briante Weber and Jarnell Stokes, continuing to play up the team’s collective nostalgia trip.

Though the Heat organization has faith that its core will turn the corner of success sooner rather than later, the ability to show that the team has grown since the first round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs, will be the only benchmark worth measuring.

In anticipation of another bumpy season, Heat fans need answers.

It’s time to start asking the tough questions.
