Are you expecting to see him still be a part of the organization in some capacity, whenever he does finally decide to hang it up?
Tachauer: Weirdly enough, I’m not sure I see Wade taking on an official position with the Heat, once he finally retires. I think he’ll absolutely still be a part of the organization in that he’ll stay close to guys like Josh Richardson and Justise Winslow, but with him having so many other ventures of his own and of course having his family to think of (especially given how talented his son already is at the game himself), I doubt he’ll have time to become a part of the front office, much less something like an assistant coach. Still, so much of his life has been spent as a member of the Miami Heat that he’ll probably never completely cut ties. Even after president Pat Riley retires. Even if head coach Erik Spoelstra ever ends up somewhere else. Because what’s Miami Heat Basketball without Dwyane Wade?
Gewirtz: Yes, regardless of his decision on when to retire, as it is pretty clear that he does not intend on leaving Miami again anytime soon. I could see Wade taking on a role as some kind of assistant like Juwan Howard did after he retired in 2013, or maybe a position in the front office if he so chooses. If he ends up doing something more unofficial, I am sure he will stick around and help mentor some of the young core players on the team like Bam Adebayo, Richardson and Winslow. Bottom line: I do not believe he will be involved with teams other than the Heat on a mentor/coaching level after he retires.
