Who do you predict will be the team’s Sixth Man this year?
Eyrich: Rodney McGruder – It’s so nice to have him back and you can tell he is ready to compete. So far this preseason he has been able to get his numbers. The shooting percentage isn’t quite there but we may see that turn around once he’s more comfortable.
Mora: I really want Rodney McGruder to surprise people. Because of his injuries, he has fallen off the radar, but people forget what a defensive threat he can be. His length and hustle alone are enough to mimic a Bruce Bowen animosity between him and the opponent. If he gets his 3-pointer back and integrates into the wear and tear that is Miami Heat Basketball, he can become a contender for Sixth Man of the Year. We’ve seen what he can do, and barring any injuries, he can accomplish that. I feel Miami has a great roster all around that compliments each other, but lack recognition from the league because they always end up in mediocre low seeding, in the Eastern Conference. If they can get out of that slump, McGruder might just have a fighting chance.
Johnson: If he ends up coming off the bench, it’s Olynyk for sure. Once his shots start falling and his passes start ending in made buckets, he’ll be a huge boost for the Heat’s second rotation. Otherwise, Wade has a real shot at a major impact if he doesn’t start; never bet against Father Prime.
Rahming: Spoelstra and president Pat Riley will push for it to be Tyler Johnson due to his contract and expected bump in talent this season; but in actuality, it will end up being Wade. If the offense isn’t humming quite right or there is a defensive scheme the Heaat can take advantage of, Wade’s number will be the first one called. Heck, Tyler Johnson may not even be in Miami when the season starts. Let the swirling rumors continue…
Leniart: My heart says Wade, but there are too many other great candidates for Miami’s Sixth Man. The reason why there are so many candidates, is because we are not entirely sure what the starting lineup will look like. My best guesses would be Tyler Johnson, Winslow or Adebayo (assuming Winslow and Adebayo do not start). All three players were significant contributors last season. Given the current bottleneck at the guard position, Adebayo would have the best chance of those three to stand out and make an impact.
Nurse: If the roster remains the same and Olynyk moved into the starting lineup, James Johnson’s versatility will serve best as the first weapon off of the bench.
Gewirtz: Is it bold to say Wade? Assuming he stays in his role of coming off the bench and because Waiters is still going to be out for an indefinite period, I think Wade will be just what this team needs as a veteran. Plus, it being #OneLastDance, I have no doubt that he is going to give all he has, every minute that he is on the court.
The countdown begins.
