April 7, 2016

Chicago played the Heat four times during the 2016-17 season, with Butler’s best performance happening during the fourth and final matchup.

While he scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished four assists on January 25 during their first battle, he was sidelined for the next two, which took place on March 1 and 11, respectively.

He was back on April 7, however, and was able to finish with 25 points in 40 minutes; he shot 7-of-17 from the floor, while going 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Butler also recorded six assists that day.

Teammate Pau Gasol had himself a good game too, totaling 21 points on 7-for-11 shooting in 33 minutes, and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Still, the Heat came out on top, 106-98.

It was a total team effort, with seven guys notching double-digits in scoring, but Wade led the way with 21 points in 33 minutes, shooting 9-for-18 from the floor.

James Johnson finished with 17 points in 35 minutes, going 7-of-10 from the field (and 3-for-4 from downtown).

That season, after having signed a five-year, $95 million contract, Butler averaged 20.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.6 steals a game, in 36.9 minutes a game; he competed and started in 69 games.

It was certainly a strong year for Butler, who broke Michael Jordan‘s team record for points in a half, when he scored 40 (of his 42), against the Toronto Raptors on January 3. He also recorded a career-high 53 points just a few days later, on January 14, in overtime versus the Philadelphia 76ers.
