Miami Heat 1-on-1: Seven games in and already plenty to discuss
Lastly, are you surprised by Dwyane Wade’s newly developed 3-point shot?
Tachauer: Oh absolutely. Look, it’s impressive for anyone to suddenly add a new skill to their arsenal, but it becomes especially mind-blowing at 36. And after 15 years in the league. Wade is shooting a career-high 44.8 percent from 3-point land, and looks darn good doing it too. He went 4-for-6 from downtown against the Portland Trailblazers on October 27, and did so again on October 30 versus the Hornets, scoring 19 points on both occasions. The best part is, I really think the best is yet to come. I honestly feel sorry for those people who were calling him washed all summer, before he made his decision to return for #OneLastDance. How truly embarrassing for them.
Ebrahim: Yes and no, actually. I was ready for him to bring something new to the table, especially for his last season. And hearing him talk, you know he’s in tune with the NBA of today and his abilities with regard to that. So it’s not shocking that he would’ve spent most of his summer working on fine tuning his 3-point shot, particularly with the amount of ball-handlers on the team. As a defender, I’d much rather sag off of him on the line and help contest a driving Dragic layup. But to see his percentage this high, is pretty crazy. Obviously I don’t expect it to last and it’s a small sample size, but the amount he’s shooting is exactly what the team needs from him, instead of him emptying the clip because of these misleading numbers. I just hope it doesn’t turn into Kobe Bryant’s last year, where emptying the clip was the name of the game, as opposed to actually winning.
There’s plenty more Miami Heat Basketball to come.
