The bad news just keeps coming for the Miami Heat.

Brace yourselves Miami Heat fans: more bad news has hit South Florida.

Point guard Goran Dragic has missed 12 of the last 14 games with a right knee injury, and now he’ll miss more; it was announced earlier today that the veteran underwent surgery on that knee on Wednesday. And that after having it successfully cleaned up, Dragic is looking at continuing to be sidelined for up to two months.

Which puts his return at about the All-Star break.

So far this season, he has averaged about 14 points per game, on 41 percent shooting from the field, having last played against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 10, totaling just seven points on 3-of-9 shooting in 18 minutes.

With No. 7 sidelined, the Heat are now without a single so-called true point guard on the roster, a scary thought given how turbulent the year has already been.

The only silver-lining really is that Miami is filled to the brim with guards, so guys like Tyler Johnson or Rodney McGruder can easily be slotted in to fill the void and start at point guard for the foreseeable future.

Dwyane Wade and James Johnson will also come off the bench to share some of those responsibilities, like they have honestly already been doing  all season.

Of course, there’s also Josh Richardson and Justise Winslow, who will both very much be expected to share much of those duties too; despite their abilities to also handle other positions well.

Richardson has finally made it out of his slump, and Winslow has thrived at point guard recently, making the bad news surrounding Dragic, just a little more bearable.

Players missing games has unfortunately been a theme for the Heat this season.

Wade missed multiple games due to the birth of his daughter, and also missed Friday’s win at Memphis with soreness. James Johnson missed the entire first month of the season because of sports hernia surgery he had in the offseason. Wayne Ellington missed two games due to the death of his grandmother (and was subsequently not not used in his first game back against the Lakers, or in Sunday’s win at the Pelicans).

Nevermind that Dion Waiters, though he’s apparently close to a comeback, has yet to be cleared this year.

Will the Miami Heat persevere? Yes. But losing Goran Dragic for an extended period of time, certainly isn’t ideal.
