Trading Faces (or not)

As if the NBA needed any more drama, the Heat were embroiled in the biggest trade of the season that went absolutely nowhere.

Jimmy Butler, of Chicago Bulls locker room rant fame, took his notoriety to another level when he made excessively clear his yearning to leave the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Well aware of their penchant for physical and behavioral rehabilitation as well as the need for a “superstar,” Miami bit on the trade talks, throwing out any and every name on the roster in the trade machine brain teaser.

Of course, Butler was flipped to Philadelphia and Miami was left high and dry. But abstaining from the trade was for the best, as the Heat have since cobbled together a five-game win streak to complement a breakout from resident Butler impersonator, Justise Winslow.

Already a defensive stalwart, the fourth-year forward has begun to live up to his draft night comparisons by injecting confidence into his offensive toolkit. In the month of December, Winslow averaged nearly 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal and a half per game.

Miami might have lost out on the Butler sweepstakes, but with Winslow at the helm, it was assuredly for the better.
