The Bad

As AUCH former site expert Wes Goldberg pointed out this week in his column, the Heat have a lot of guards on this roster. While they are talented in their respective ways, the Heat just have too many of them.

Plus, this team could really use some cleared up roster space. Remember, the Heat are not only paying Hassan Whiteside and Tyler Johnson’s monster contracts out, but Chris Bosh is still being paid for the last year of his contract and it’s not just pocket change. It is almost $27 million.

As much as Heat Nation loves Bosh, this contract is doing nothing but costing the team more money. While nothing can be done about that contract in particular, there are others that could be moved before the February 7 trade deadline.

Wayne Ellington, as great as he was at some points last season, has been moved out of the rotation and will probably be the first of any to be moved. Dion Waiters could also be offered up for trading if the Heat could get a good offer.

While this issue of payroll can be somewhat solved before the trade deadline, the Heat have not been great about making trades in the past year. Given the large contracts they are holding right now, they do not have much to offer without giving up at least a piece of the young core.

The worst part about where the Heat are at right now? It feels like there is no consistency this season and any time it looks like they might have found some, they get knocked back down below .500. If no moves are made before the trade deadline, it looks like the Heat will have a rocky time finishing this season.
