Miami Heat: 5 intriguing trade ideas for Mike Conley and/or Marc Gasol
By Trey Flynn
Trade no. 2
In this trade slide, Memphis will be offered a worst move than our previous trade, but I believe this deal should be argued before sending out that first one.
The Miami Heat would be sending a smaller package to Memphis than our previous deal, this one includes Hassan Whiteside, Wayne Ellington and a 2023 (possibly 2019) unprotected first round pick in return for Marc Gasol and Shelvin Mack.
This move all depends on how enamored Miami is with Gasol, as the 2019 pick could seal the deal rather than 2023.
Memphis will have a hard time moving Gasol unless they are also getting back a similar production player and cap back for less time, and in this case, they essentially swap Whiteside and Gasol to grab the first round pick (Miami would offer 2023, but most likely get countered with 2019 instead, as previously mentioned).
I would not move the 2019 unprotected first round pick for Gasol, rather, I would leave that for a Conley deal (that is coming up). But I still think Memphis should hear this move-out, as just moving away from Gasol and grabbing potential youth or an asset in a first round pick from a middling team like Miami would be helpful for a team that has given up their firsts to other organizations over the past few years.
Our next three moves will be centered around Mike Conley (with a blockbuster deal mixed in).
