In the aftermath of Dwyane Wade’s final NBA season with the Miami Heat, he’s been nominated for the Magic Johnson Award for excellence on and off the court.

Now that his final season is in the books, it turns out there may yet be more NBA hardware in store for Dwyane Wade after all. The Miami Heat legend has been nominated for one more award, this time the Magic Johnson Award.

Presented by the Pro Basketball Writers Association, the Magic Johnson Award recognizes the player who best combines excellence both on and off the court with fans and media.

Also up for the award are Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards, Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz and Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic.

While surely each candidate is deserving in their own way, this is almost certainly the last shot Dwyane Wade will ever get at an award in the NBA. Given this fact and our own clear hometown bias at All U Can Heat, we’re rooting for D-Wade to add one more trophy to the mantle.

Wade has been nothing but a consummate professional throughout his decorated career both off the floor as well as on it, clearly. He’s well-known for being great with fans, media and teammates, and winning this award would be far from a mere legacy award given that he was clearly the best player on the Miami Heat roster down the stretch in what ended up being a failed playoff push.

Next. 3 surefire ways to make the Miami Heat better next season. dark

Now that Magic Johnson has stepped away from his duties as Los Angeles Lakers team president, perhaps he’ll find some time to nudge the PBWA voters in the right direction and help add to what was a season to remember for both Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat.
