With the recent news about the Houston Rockets making Chris Paul available, it’s time to start the speculation if the Miami Heat could be interested.

With the recent news coming from ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski that the Houston Rockets are making their whole roster available, including Chris Paul, it’s time to start the speculation if the Miami Heat could be interested.

Spoiler Alert: I truly think the idea of Chris Paul to the Heat is a less than stellar move for Pat Riley. Paul’s remaining contract (three years, $124 million) and age (34) are a few setbacks for possibly any team to consider. However, let’s entertain the idea.

Why are the Rockets possibly doing an overhaul of the whole team including improving Center Clint Capela? Well, to quote Wojnarowski, “Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has made his entire roster and future draft picks available in trade talks, a dramatic initiative with hopes of reshaping the team into a championship contender”.

If a deal were to be made, the Heat would have to try to dump a few contracts including the likes James Johnson, Dion Waiters, etc. But we would have to throw one of the crucial pieces of the Heat’s pre-existing young core in the deal, whether that be Justise Winslow, Bam Adebayo and Josh Richardson.

If the Heat front office are legitimately considering this, they need to ask themselves is it worth giving up one of the core young pieces that can give us production for years to come for Paul?

Let’s be honest, Chris Paul would be the best player on the team for sure but throughout the next three seasons, the Heat would take salaries of $38.5 million, $41.4 million and $44 million for a 34-year-old point guard.

Again, while Paul has that mentality of making other people around him better, I feel the Heat shouldn’t look the way of trading with the Houston Rockets for the soon-to-be hall of fame point guard.

Sure, we could dump some contracts on the way, but you’re taking one of the worst (or at least heftiest) contracts in the NBA right now for what would a few years of good play. I’m not buying it and neither should Pat Riley and the rest of the front office.
