Former Miami Heat guard and future Hall of Famer D-Wade gave us “One Last Dance” last season. Here’s why he should give us one more.

Last season didn’t exactly look like a retirement season for Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat. The eight-time NBA All-Star, who was also NBA All-Defense three times, averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game last season. He did so while shooting 33 percent from deep, which was also a career-best percentage from three for the 16 year NBA veteran.

Not only were these numbers somewhat impressive, with D-Wade coming off the bench and only at 26.2 minutes per game, but they were severely needed as well. He was not only one of the primary closers it seemed, but he may have been one of the best players on the team, if not the very best.

That is where we will start. Here is the first reason Dwyane Wade should give us one more dance.

He still has something left

It would be one thing if he averaged 10-15 minutes per game last season, but he averaged quite a bit over the 20-minute mark. It would also be one thing if they were an empty 26 minutes played, but he was also more than effective during his time on the court.

Although he didn’t have as much of the bounce last year, he was still effective in creating space for himself, whether that be for perimeter shots or room to drive the lane. As mentioned and in example, he even found a way to somewhat expand his game if you look at his shooting percentage from distance, if you can say that about a player that was already a solidified Miami Heat and NBA Legend then what more do you need to say.

Shooting a career-best 33 percent from the long-range arc, he made 86 of 261 3 point attempts, which are both ranked second for a season in his career. He even had double-digit game-highs in points, rebounds, and assists at some point last season, with his game-high points scored being a 35 point outing against the NBA Champion Toronto Raptors in November of last season. This is the first reason why Flash should give the people what they want, another season, one more dance.

The chance to play in his city with his protege

According to Jimmy Butler, Wade is a “mentor”. Here is proof, according to this tweet from Miami Heat reporter Ira Winderman.

If Dwyane Wade is his mentor, that would ultimately make Butler his protege. What sensei wouldn’t want at least one opportunity to be with the grasshopper out in the field? Dwyane Wade is probably no different.

This is the second reason, because he would have the opportunity to play with his old pal Jimmy Butler. Not only would coming back for one more season give Father Prime the opportunity to play with the guy he sold on becoming a member of the Miami Heat, but it would give them the opportunity to do something special together.

This also includes the fact that they would be doing it for an organization that is special to Dwyane Wade while actually getting it done would start to push it to that level of special for Jimmy Butler, which would only bode better for the future. That leads right into the third reason, which has everything to do with doing something special.

There is a need

Lastly, there is a need for a guy like WoW. Not only would he contribute as another veteran presence, if Udonis Haslem decides to return and the only veteran presence if he doesn’t, but he would also be of great use on the court.

The Miami Heat could always use a guy capable of giving you a consistent scoring punch, somewhere between 8-11 points, off the bench on a game to game basis. Based on his scoring average last season, he still seems more than capable of providing that.

On top of the scoring punch in general, he should still be able to help close out games. At the end of games, it could only help to have a Dwyane Wade on the floor. This would be no matter who he’s on the court with, to either be the option to take the shot or as a decoy for the one taking the shot.

While there would always be a need, this particular season and situation make it more imperative. With the Brooklyn Nets being down Kevin Durant for a season, with the Milwaukee Bucks losing pieces such as the all-important Malcolm Brogdon, and with the Philadelphia 76’ers potentially going back to a seemingly dated playing style with a lot of bigs where no one is a great jump shooter, the East could be had if the Miami Heat hit their stride at the right time.

There’s a fourth reason that he should return as well, which is because the fans want him back with this team, but that should have already been evident. Just one more dance D-Wade, just one more, please? No matter how you slice it, these are three reasons Dwyane Wade should consider one more dance.
