Develop finishing skills
In spite of the fact that the Heat played better overall last season when he started at point guard, Winslow has some work to do with the ball in his hands as a scorer. As we’ve noted before, he’s remarkably inefficient at scoring as the ball handler out of the pick-and-roll, scoring just .638 points per possession (PPP) per Synergy last season.
Much of this came from inefficient shooting around the basket. In the restricted area, Winslow shot just 51.9 percent from the floor, well below the league average of 57 percent. From floater range, he shot well below the league average rate of 42.3 percent, hitting just 16 of his 64 attempts.
While he struggled to put the ball in the basket on the drive, he was an excellent facilitator, so the Heat will need to keep the ball in his hands as much as they can next season. He just needs to take this step forward in order to become a more rounded basketball player.
