As USA Basketball builds its team for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, Bam Adebayo has been invited to represent the Miami Heat in Team USA’s camp.

Team USA has already undergone a high level of turnover as a result of the monumental amount of player movement around the NBA. With a number of players dropping out of consideration, it’s opened up opportunities for a whole new group of players to represent USA Basketball in the FIBA World Cup. On Friday night, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo accepted an invitation to join Team USA’s camp.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski:

Adebayo will compete for a spot on the team with centers like Mason Plumlee, Andre Drummond, Myles Turner and Brook Lopez. On a team that is still stacked in spite of the talented players who have declined the opportunity to compete for Team USA, the center spot is remarkably deep and talented.

Under head coach Gregg Popovich and assistants Steve Kerr, Lloyd Pierce and Jay Wright, it will be fascinating to see how the competition shakes out and what the depth chart will look like at the center position.

Among the notable dropouts from Team USA are James Harden, Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Kevin Love, Paul Millsap, C.J. McCollum, Eric Gordon and Tobias Harris. Currently expected to participate in camp are Kyle Lowry, Harrison Barnes, Kyle Kuzma, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker.

As the possibilities evolve for the potential lineup in USA Basketball’s camp, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Miami Heat players like Tyler Herro, Justise Winslow and Derrick Jones Jr. get invitations to the USA Basketball Select team.

This team practices and scrimmages daily between August 5th and 9th in Las Vegas against Team USA to prepare them for international competition which this summer will be the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China.
