Goran Dragic has been a pro’s pro during his time with the Miami Heat. Entering his 12th NBA season, here are three goals for him during next season.
The Miami Heat got a flat out grinder when they acquired Goran Dragic in the 2014-15 season. He has shown up to play each and every game that he has played in to win, by any means necessary.
He does not shy away from anything, the contact, the scrutiny, or the competition, making him an ideal Miami Heat Player. For the most part, he has done it all with a smile on his face, sometimes even a bloody one.
With all of these things in mind though, there are things he should look to challenge himself on in this upcoming season. Here are three goals for The Dragon in the 2019-20 season.
Embrace The 6th Man Role
For starters and to get it out of the way, Goran Dragic is still a starting-caliber player in the NBA. While he is a starting-caliber player, for this Miami Heat team he would be better coming off the bench.
While it isn’t a knock on him or his game, it has everything to do with him and his game. While he isn’t a true point guard, he can play the position at a high level. What he most likes to do though is get downhill as he heads to the basket.
What has separated Dragic throughout his time in the league is his ability to score it and shoot it from the guard position. In a sixth man role, he could focus solely on doing just that.
Not only would he better serve the Miami Heat in this type of role, but he would probably better serve himself. Not only could he lengthen his career, if his intentions were to play another five or six years, but he could probably raise his value.
On the open market, it is hard to say what he would get in general and even harder as a starting guard but as a sixth man type, he could see Lou Williams type money. For reference, Lou Williams is in the second year of three year deal at $24 million dollars with the L.A. Clippers.
Dragic likes to score the ball and can score it with the best of them. The Miami Heat could definitely use his firepower off the bench, as it would give them a definitive go-to option from there, where he would still probably get most the minutes in crunch time or crucial situations as well.
He could not only still be a part of the closing unit in this role, but he would definitely be a candidate for the Sixth Man Award. That is why embracing the sixth man role is his first goal for this season.
