Figuring Out How The Youngsters Fit Into The Fold

The Miami Heat have a beautiful problem on their hands, one that every team and coach would probably like to have in the NBA. They have two or three potential younger players that could and should make meaningful contributions to this upcoming season’s team.

When thinking about Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, and certainly Tyler Herro, they all have things that they excel at already. Excel in this particular context means regular season pro-ready.

While Robinson and Herro are both already NBA caliber shooters, Nunn is already adept at scoring and specifically the penetration game. While none of them may be at their absolute peaks of what they can become, they can all more than make meaningful contributions for this Miami Heat team right now with their abilities, even if only in short spurts.

It is up to Erik Spoelstra to not only figure out how or when to best deploy these players but to also figure out how to do so in a way that helps the team win games while continuing to accelerate or foster their development. While one of those things can often impede the other, and vice versa, Spo has to figure out a way to do it.

This team could use the shooting of Robinson and Herro, and if last season’s inability to create offense at times is any indication, they could use Nunn’s ability to go get a bucket or set up someone else for one. That is why this is Coach Spoelstra’s second goal, to figure out how to best fit Robinson, Herro, and Nunn into the mold of this team.
