Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra has elevated himself into one of the top coaches in the NBA. Here’s a bold prediction for the former video coordinator.

Not many teams in the league can say that they have a great head coach. The Miami Heat are one of those teams.

Not only can not a lot of teams say that, but not a lot of teams in the league can say that they are led by a two time NBA Championship-winning head coach with 11 years of head coaching experience, who’s best days are arguably still ahead of him. Again, the Miami Heat can.

Coach Erik Spoelstra has not only pulled himself up by his bootstrings through the murky ranks of NBA tedium, going from video coordinator to championship-winning head coach, but he has done so quite smoothly, efficiently, and without a ton of carnage left in the wake. While some may question his coaching acumen, abilities, and ranks among the rest of the league’s head men(looking at you Dan Dakich), there is no question that he is an elite head NBA coach.

In case you have been living under a rock for the past few months, here is the context behind the subtle jab above. As a matter of fact, here is the exact instance, hardcore evidence or exhibit A is what they would call it in the business.

Not only was Dakich out of line here, but he was just wrong. As Miami Heat twitter and Heat faithful simultaneously went into an uproar, Jorge Sedano put him where he needed to be. Verbally, in a first-person fashion, as well as digitally.

If the above evidence wasn’t enough, Sedano even shared more intel. The next display wasn’t as metric or statistics-based but was arguably just as or more telling and effective as evidence to back up the point of Spoelstra being among the elite when it comes to NBA head coaches.

While Spoelstra is definitely a top head coach in this league, as indicated by his record and pointed out by the above tweets from Sedano, some would argue he still doesn’t receive his just due. Well, they may be right.

While he can’t win all of the awards or receive all of the accolades all of the time, you would think that he would sometimes, at least one time or another. Well, he hasn’t. That leads to this bold prediction for Spo.

Coach Spo will be among the top three finalists for NBA Coach Of The Year this season

It should come as a shock, but Spoelstra has never won the award before. He has however been named NBA Coach Of The Month eight times though.

This season presents the ultimate opportunity to win the big one though. Even with the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, many people are expecting the Miami Heat to struggle to make the playoffs, finish among the bottom of the East, and to get knocked out early if they are to even make the playoffs.

Not only will Spoelstra lead this Miami Heat team to a top record and seed in the Eastern Conference, but he will help them make a pretty deep run once they do. He has all of the requisite tools to do so with this current iteration of the Miami Heat.

He has a go-to guy in Jimmy Butler. He has floor-spacing bigs in Meyers Leonard, Kelly Olynyk, and Bam Adebayo. He has extreme and elite athletes in Bam Adebayo, Derrick Jones Jr, and James Johnson.

He has defensive stoppers in Justise Winslow, Jimmy Butler, and James Johnson. He has rim protection and length in Bam Adebayo and Meyers Leonard. Among many other things that could be mentioned, he has good athleticism and versatility all the way across the board and roster to tie a bow around things.

He has all the tools that any elite NBA team should look to have to compete at the highest level. This is why he will challenge for his first NBA Coach Of The Year award this season.
