The Miami Heat have felt the aftershocks of LeBron leaving over the past few seasons. Now that they are starting to right the ship, the fake love is thick in the air.
“I’ve been down so long it look like up to me” is a phrase that not only describes the Miami Heat perfectly but also just so happens to be the opening line from a chorus to a Drake song called Fake Love. Appropriately enough, there seems to be a mounting amount of fake love being showered upon the Miami Heat as we get set to open training camp and subsequently, the season.
To be perfectly frank, over the last two seasons, there has hardly been any national coverage surrounding the team. Now, all of sudden, they “could be sleeper team in Eastern Conference“. This of course, is if you ask one of CBSsports.com’s writers about the topic.
How would they know? They haven’t seemed to have been following the team much over the past couple of seasons outside of a here and there fluff piece covering Dwyane Wade‘s One Last Dance. This isn’t taking a shot at CBS and their sports division though, as they aren’t the only guilty parties here.
Another source of fake love that really burns my grease is this piece from The Ringer. While the entire piece is based around the notion that Jimmy Butler isn’t the only reason to be interested in the Miami Heat, Miami Heat Faithful would like to know how the author knows that, considering that it seems like no one found the ink, time, or interest to write about the team prior to this summer. Here is the actual teaser from this piece, it’s a real doozy if you ask me.
"Jimmy Butler is the new face in town, but Bam Adebayo, Dion Waiters, and Justise Winslow alone are worth the price of admission"
Seriously?! Although we love Dion and hope that he is all the way right, so that he is able to perform up to the peak of his abilities, this author must not know that last year was a down year for him and that he only played in about half of the games.
While the Justise and Bam parts are somewhat accurate, this is clearly someone who sees’s headlines or blasted social media posts, and has based the entirety of that work off of things he thought he knows but doesn’t. While we can’t do anything about it, this is something that we don’t want here amongst this fanbase. We struggled without it, we can excel and prevail without it, and to close in the words of the great poet and philosopher Aubrey Graham.
I’ve been down so long it look like up to me
They look up to me
I got fake people showin’ fake love to me
Straight up to my face, straight up to my face
