Miami Heat head man Erik Spoelstra is not only an elite head coach but a key part of the organization. ESPN’s The Jump took on Spo’s extension on Monday.

When Dan Dakich wanted all the smoke this past summer as he made unintelligent, uninformed, and plain idiotic statements about Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, the blowback was stern, fast, appropriate, and dynamic. Well, over this past weekend, all that noise was completely quelled, officially. This came in the form of a new four-year pact with the man at the helm for the Miami Heat.

Fresh off of that news, but also while Miami Heat Media Day was well underway and sure to produce more storylines, ESPN’s The Jump decided to discuss Spo‘s new extension. They used their “Something, Nothing, Everything” segment to do the deed. Here is a look into what they had to say.

As stated by ESPN’s Kevin Arnovitz and Chiney OgwumikeSpo’s extension is definitely “something”. Not only does it continue to provide that consistency and stability that this organization has enjoyed for at least the last eleven seasons, but it gives them that platform to build upon for at least the next five.

Not only does he “personify” the system, but he is a walking, talking, breathing embodiment of the system. Everything is structured, regimented, and segmented in a way that not only serves to get the best out of each individual in each given position, but it teaches the core values of discipline, hard work, and fundamentals that are key to the success of this Miami Heat organization.

To quote Ogwumike here, he is definitely a “core piece” of the culture, as he is the face and mouthpiece for said culture throughout the season, in the locker room, and along the sidelines. The most interesting thought posed during this segment came from a man very familiar with Miami sports and the Miami Heat, Jorge Sedano.

It goes without saying how well Sedano knows the discussed topic, so it shouldn’t be any surprise that he made this statement and was dead on in making it. Coach Spo is on track to be just that, the “Gregg Popovich of the Miami Heat”. He will more than likely not only finish as the most successful head coach in team history when it’s all said and done, but he will be the face most synonymous with the Miami Heat(outside of Dwyane Wade and Pat Riley).

I tend to lean more towards the take of Sedano where he said that this extension was “everything”, but what do you expect, we’re sort of what people would call homers. Either way, no one along the panel had the audacity to call it “nothing”, which is appreciated but also shows that they actually have a sense of awareness about what’s going on in South Beach. Miami Heat basketball is right around the corner Heat Faithful, let’s get excited!
