Most Miami Heat rumors have targeted Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards over the last few months. Here’s why any potential deal would be a sticky one.

The Setup.

The Miami Heat are chomping at the bit to get back to relevance and title contention. They have been on this mission since LeBron James left the organization back in 2014. While it hasn’t been an easy mission by any means, it is one that Pat Riley, the team, and the organization have embraced wholeheartedly.

They took a big step towards accomplishing this mission this past offseason as they brought in a two-way superstar in Jimmy Butler. While promising to bring in another bonafide star is said to have been a key factor in securing Jimmy Butler’s services on the open market, landing Butler was a necessary step in order for any of the previous notions to occur, bringing in someone else or possibly getting back to contention.

After landing Butler however, the landscape of players available and the financial capability of the Miami Heat to bring in another star player seemingly dried up, until it didn’t. After Paul George forced his way out of Oklahoma City, by all accounts, Russell Westbrook let it be known that he too would rather be elsewhere.

The Miami Heat got in on those proceedings, but he ultimately landed in Houston. The piece that was sent back to OKC from Houston in Chris Paul then became a target player for the Heat, sort of. With the financials left on his current contract along with what it might have taken to get him from the Thunder, that wasn’t something that the Heat were or should have been interesting in doing.
