When the Miami Heat landed Jimmy Butler over the summer, it wasn’t all bubble gum and rainbows. Some are continuing to double down on that notion.
The Miami Heat were getting set to face the Atlanta Hawks in their third game of the preseason on Tuesday, and then this happened. Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report released a piece he titled “4 NBA Players Who Will Regret Their 2019 Free Agency Decisions”.
If you might have guessed a reason for this piece after seeing the above-named piece, then your guess was probably right. Jimmy Butler was number one on the list.
Hughes’ main point for listing Butler here was the fact that he turned down a handsome sum of extra money to become a member of the Miami Heat. Here is a small synopsis of why Hughes believes that Butler will come to regret his decision to choose the Heat.
"It’s $48 million! As a frame of reference, consider the extremes the heist crew in Den of Thieves went to (and the collateral damage incurred). They did all that for $30 million. Thirty is an important number for Butler too. That’s his age. Generally speaking, players who enter their fourth decade are looking for one more big score before their primes conclude. Guys typically look for the longest deal possible at this stage, but Butler decided he’d rather give up $48 million guaranteed and hit free agency a year earlier. There’s a lot to be said for the match between Butler and the Heat, two entities linked by an emphasis on work ethic and intensity. And it feels shallow to begrudge a guy choosing his destination based on personal preference rather than financial gain."
While Hughes did get it wrong overall by including Butler on the list, he did get a few things right. This is where we will start and here is the first reason why Butler won’t regret his decision.
