Miami Heat: Tyler Herro puts his cape on to help get a win down the stretch
The Miami Heat have three very solid rookie players on the roster this season and they are all contributing. Sunday night was all about Tyler Herro though.
The Miami Heat are a team known for player development and scouting. Although and like every other team in the league, they have had a few players not live up to their draft slot or potential in a Heat uniform(see Michael Beasley), they tend to get more right than wrong while also being able to mine a few more gems than most other teams around the league.
This season they were able to hit again. They landed Kendrick Nunn on the last day of last season, signing him away from the Warriors G-League program, while signing manchild Chris Silva as an undrafted rookie free agent this past July. While the previous two players mentioned have appeared to be worth their weights in gold themselves, Tyler Herro has been an absolute treasure.
While he plays mostly off the bench, he also plays most crunch or clutch minutes, while also finding himself in closing situations often. This is more than likely based on not only his superb shooting prowess, but his ability to handle, create for himself, and create for others if need be. All of this ability was on display Sunday against the Chicago Bulls, but none more so than his superb shotmaking, which eventually ended up saving the day and flying the Miami Heat off to victory.
A close game throughout, it came down to the final seconds of the fourth quarter where the Heat were down by one point. Whereas they tried to go for the two-pointer via a Jimmy Butler drive, they eventually got a good look from deep and took it. You shouldn’t have to think too hard to come up with the guy that was eventually able to take and make the big shot, well here he is in case you haven’t come up with it yet.
The game would eventually be taken to overtime, but not if it weren’t for the rookie sinking that big shot. If that weren’t enough, here is another highlightesque reel of his overtime escapades that most certainly sealed the victory for the Heat.
That was all in overtime! Tyler Herro finished the game with 27 points, six rebounds, and three assists on 10-22 shooting from the floor and 5-11 from three, with 11 of those coming in the overtime period while going 3-3 from deep and 2-2 from the charity stripe.
Tyler Herro had himself quite the game and as mentioned earlier, the key reason for this victory on Sunday. The Miami Heat will get a day of rest before they are right back at it in American Airlines Arena on Tuesday to continue this homestand and to see if they can add to their flawless 10-0 home record. They will face a familiar foe on Tuesday in the Atlanta Hawks, a team that they have beaten multiple times already this season and we will be right there to soak it all in.
