The Miami Heat are off to a great start against the visiting Los Angeles Lakers thanks to Derrick Jones Jr. and their defense.

The Miami Heat came out ready for the visiting Los Angeles Lakers as they look to defend their undefeated home record, and nobody came out more ready than Derrick Jones Jr.

Jones put up nine points in the first 15 minutes including a couple huge big finishes. Check out the highlight embedded below from the Miami Heat Twitter account:

Late in the second quarter the Miami Heat hold a 52-42 lead over the Lakers on the strength of their defense which has been effective so far in keeping LeBron James from getting too comfortable. James has nine points on 3-of-9 shooting from the floor and an incredible seven turnovers already.

The rest of the Heat youngsters in the rotation are holding their own in this battle, including eight points each from Kendrick Nunn and Duncan Robinson, and Tyler Herro has been fearless with eight shots so far (only two makes, sad to say).

The Heat are yielding just over 100 points per 100 possessions, a solid rate in any game let alone against one of the best teams in the NBA like this 22-3 Lakers squad.
