His Relatability
Whether it be with his current players, his former players, future players, other coaches and personnel around the league, or with his own bosses, Coach Erik Spoelstra seems to know how to relate to anybody. He seems to always have a story about how he made a connection or went about starting to make one with a certain player, coach, or other associated people.
This is one of the reasons you have to love Coach Spo. He never tries to act above it all, anyone and everyone can relate to him, even us fans.
His Story
Knowing as much as we do about Coach Spo, it’s hard not to appreciate and embrace. Growing up in the NBA and world of basketball, the son of a top NBA employee, he went on to play collegiate ball in Portland.
He would then work his way up through the ranks of the Miami Heat’s coaching system, to one day become a head coach. Two titles and a ton of games won later, we stand where we are. Knowing how he got here and what it took should be enough to inspire anyone and especially considering the first factor, his relatability.
His Mannerisms
Coach Spoelstra can be as cool, calm, and collective as they come, but he can also be as animated. When watching Miami Heat games, a small part of the entertainment is watching how Coach Spo responds to certain things during a game. Here is one of favorite Coach Spo mannerisms ever, as he called a timeout from a game earlier this season.

Whether it be this, his patented stance with his hands on his hips as if he just dislocated his shoulders throwing the bottoms of his coat jacket back to land his hands there, or the many different iterations of him holding his own head in shock and/or disbelief, Spo does a ton of memorable things that we love to see him do. That is the third reason why you have to love Spo.
