Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade has called for another Heat legend to have his own street, as Wade does. This legend is Miami’s very own, Udonis Haslem.
The Miami Heat are deeply rooted in the Miami community and it shows in all they do. The greatest Miami Heat player ever, Dwyane Wade, is one of the, if not the single largest, examples of this.
For a long time now, Miami-Dade County in Florida has been come to be known as Miami-Wade County, after the Miami Heat icon. The admiration from the city of Miami and the South Florida region runs deeper than just that showing of love and respect for the man we all know as Flash though.
Earlier this year, there was a street in Miami named for the icon. Dwyane Wade Boulevard was the name given to a street in front of the Miami Heat’s American Airlines Arena.
The NBA and Heat legend was surely appreciative of the gesture, as he has been across the years about the many extended to him, but isn’t being selfish with the high praise and honor. He recently called for one of his other championship-winning teammates to get his own street named in his honor.
Not only was he calling for his Miami Heat brother, Udonis Haslem, to receive a street named in his honor, but an entire weekend. It would be the most fitting thing for the man who was born, raised, and made in that very city.
The three-time NBA champion leads the Miami Heat all-time in total rebounds, is ninth in total blocks, 10th in total steals, second in minutes played, second in games played, and eighth in free throws made during the regular season. He is all over the Miami Heat record books.
Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra’s favorite player will surely have his number raised to the rafters one day, as sure as the Heat are still in Miami. Dwyane Wade thinks it should go beyond that for UD though and we totally agree.
The OG needs his own street and weekend annually, as it would be most appropriate. Let’s not be so fast to retire him though, because we will have him as long as he continues to come back.
