The Miami Heat have their eyes on making a free agency splash in 2021, but how should they operate in free agency this upcoming summer?
The first of what the Miami Heat hope will be many years with Jimmy Butler at the helm will largely end up a success. Alongside first-time All-Star Bam Adebayo, the Heat put together a 41-24 record before the league went on hiatus.
Butler proved himself a legitimate centerpiece, and an incredible leader for the team’s young personnel: Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro, and Kendrick Nunn.
The coronavirus pandemic may have ended the regular season prematurely, but if playoffs take place as expected, the Heat will host the Indiana Pacers in round one of the tournament.
But no matter the 2019-2020 campaign’s current trajectory, the Miami front office should take this time to look ahead to the upcoming offseason. Part of that lies in their draft strategy, but beyond that–and more importantly–the free agency market.
Miami is one of few teams with multiple role players headed for unrestricted free agency. Come July, they’ll have six guys become available league-wide. That being said, here’s a look at each of the Heat’s in-house free agents, and how they should prioritize bringing back each individual player.
