Even coming off of a season-ending foot injury, forward Aaron Nesmith proved a reliable scoring option the Miami Heat should consider in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Aaron Nesmith suffered a season-ending foot injury back in January. But he’s still widely considered a first-round prospect according to most mock drafts.
To be fair the guard averaged 23 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals on an absolutely unreal 51/52/82 shooting split. Even for just a 14-game span, that’s wildly impressive.
Nesmith’s ability to score and knock down the three ball make him a very obvious target for this Miami Heat team. With Jimmy Butler as the starting small forward, a worthy substitute should be one of the team’s top priorities.
Cue Nesmith, product of Vanderbilt University.
The 20-year old forward could very well jump right into this rotation and contribute, even if only from a scoring prospective. With a guy like Jimmy Butler at the helm, Nesmith’s off-ball movement will prove a real weapon for this Miami Heat team.
Another factor to consider here is Derrick Jones Jr’s free agency. If he’s offered a contract well outside of Pat Riley’s price range they’ll be forced to let him walk. Plugging Nesmith into his place not only provides another reliable scorer, but an NBA-ready prospect behind Butler.
If the Miami Heat are willing to take a chance on any prospect in this class, Aaron Nesmith makes a lot of sense. Few contending teams have the ability to stomach what will likely be a lengthy adjustment to life in the NBA.
