The Washington Wizards will be one of the more center needy teams come this offseason. Could Meyers Leonard leave the Miami Heat and head to DC?

No team will be shopping harder for a starting center this offseason than the Washington Wizards. They’re losing Ian Mahinmi and haven’t been able to make their young duo of Thomas Bryant and Moritz Wagner work due to a number of separate injuries.

Next season for the Wizards is considered “all in.” John Wall is coming back from his Achilles injury, and Bradley Beal’s future has never been less certain amidst all the trade rumors. They’re going to swing for the fences and that starts with a methodical free agency approach.

Their biggest need is at center and with the market as slim on starting talent as is, they’d be wise to approach Meyers Leonard with a lucrative offer. Washington, as well as Boston, needs 3-point shooting from the center position. It’s why they’ve invested so much into young Thomas Bryant.

With a championship on the mind Washington could find experience and a strong fitting big man in Leonard. How much they’ll be able to offer him will depend on Davis Bertans own free agency. If the Latvian Laser leaves DC, the Wizards could offer Leonard a more lucrative deal.

General Manager Tommy Sheppard is sure to have a pitch prepared for free agents ahead of the 2020-2021 season. The Washington Wizards won’t be afraid to spend money on a starting center as they’re putting all their eggs into a championship basket.

Will that be enough to persuade Meyers Leonard to leave Miami for the District?
