As the Miami Heat get set to return to play, as the entire NBA looks to do, they must also begin to think about the offseason. Here’s one guy they must retain.

The Miami Heat are a well-oiled machine of an organization, meaning that they are always thinking one step ahead and nothing is done by chance, well maybe only a few things. With that in mind, they must begin to think about the moves that they will make, or won’t make, as the offseason begins.

With the league getting set to tip back off after a layoff due to coronavirus, there will be a moment of time where they may have to consider bringing in a guy off the free-agent market. With that being the case, as far as the rest of and completing this season may go, there is a guy on their current roster that they must protect from being scooped up by anyone else after the season has ended.

In the last year of a five year pact he signed with the club back in 2015 for $85 million dollars, Goran Dragic is set to be a free agent at the end of the season. The kicker is this though.

The Miami Heat must retain Goran Dragic. He is key to what they have been able to do this year and what they can do moving forward.

Even playing off the bench this season, he is arguably having his best season from an effectiveness and efficiency standpoint. On nearly six attempts from deep per contest, Dragic is shooting nearly 38 percent on those attempts.

On his most attempts by far across his career per game from deep, he is shooting nearly his best percentage across any given year, with is 37.7 percentage ranking as the fifth best year of his 12-year career. We aren’t the only ones who can see it though.

WIth the interest surely to intensify as we move closer to the offseason, the Miami Heat must preempt those notions, doing all they can to keep Dragic in Miami. His production, demeanor, and ability to knock down the biggest shots in the biggest moments for the Heat during this season are things that they can’t replace.

While Derrick Jones Jr., Meyers Leonard, and Jae Crowder are all guys that would be more than worthy and deserving of coming back, while also being more than worth the price of retention, Goran Dragic is the one guy that they absolutely must retain. This should be above all else.
