As they continue their rebuild and youth movement, the New York Knicks should be considered a top contender for Derrick Jones Jr’s services.

Being one of the top teams in terms of cap space this offseason, the New York Knicks are sure to steal someone’s top free agent from under their nose. Derrick Jones Jr is no exception.

New York will not only be able to offer Jones the most money, but more time in the limelight. Whether he’ll ultimately prefer that over an opportunity to win a title in Miami has yet to be determined. But expect the Knicks to poke their noses into the Jones sweepstakes nonetheless.

The number one need in Madison Square Garden right now is some flash. Jones brings that on a number of levels, including defensive–something the Knicks really need right now.

A five-man lineup of Frank Ntilikina, RJ Barrett, Damyean Dotson, DJJ, and Mitchell Robinson would pose many a problem for opposing offenses. But would no doubt have face some hitches in offense on their own accord. Jones’ lack of a 3-point shot will specifically cause issues.

If James Dolan and the New York Knicks can somehow be convinced that Derrick Jones Jr is a natural power forward, consider a deal as good as done. On a serious note, any team with that amount of cap space poses a threat to the Miami Heat’s hopes of resigning the forward.
