Miami Heat: ESPN to explore LeBron James & “The Decision” in new episode of ‘Backstory’
The Miami Heat helped create some of the most monumental sports moments ever. ESPN explores one of those in a coming installment of the series, “Backstory”.
The Miami Heat will forever live in the lore and history books of the NBA. While their championship history, in a relatively short-lived existence, is enough to garner that praise and recognition, they have managed to accrue quite the notoriety for things outside of winning titles.
Whether it be inside or outside of traditional basketball circles, the Miami Heat are a team with a brand that is known far and wide While players like Dwyane Wade, Shaquille O’Neal, and Chris Bosh are a great part of that, having LeBron James as apart of your team’s illustrious history isn’t a bad thing either.
Actually, having LeBron as apart of your history almost guarantees that you will forever live in the ledger of NBA history. That goes for his accomplishments on the hardwood and some of his most famous, or infamous, exploits off of it.
It seems like just yesterday that The Decision was set to air. It was such an event, that it would almost be just as exciting to re-live it, although we know exactly what will happen.
The Miami Heat will forever live in infamy for their part in “The Decision”. Now is your chance to re-live it with this ESPN premiere!
Well, you now have your chance! Per ESPN, they’re set to launch an in-depth look into the events that culminated with what we have now come to know as The Decision.
In an upcoming episode of original programming, a series they call “Backstory”, ESPN plans to explore “the unlikely way The Decision was created, the reasons why it was done despite the risks and the tensions about it behind the scenes”. Here is another quote that sums up the nature of the programming.
"Backstory: The Decision premieres Sunday, June 28, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN, ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the July 8, 2010, airing of the polarizing yet ground-breaking announcement that remains the most-watched studio show in ESPN history with nearly 10 million viewers. With James now one of the most powerful voices in sports, and particularly outspoken on matters of racial and social justice, Backstory: The Decision reveals how the live special developed into what it became and examines its profound influence over the past decade."
While many of us have yearned for a deeper look into what went into the whole process that culminated in The Decision, this is finally our chance to see it all play out. Backstory: The Decision premieres Sunday, June 28, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
