If there’s going to be a Devin Booker sale, it’s safe to say that Pat Riley and the Miami Heat will remain uninterested in the guard.

The Miami Heat are going star hunting come 2021, and with that comes stipulations. Until they make some move, whether for a superstar or not, they’ll be tied to every potentially available name as the NBA’s rumor mill keeps on spinning.

Devin Booker, shooting guard for the Phoenix Suns, is the latest of names to be considered available. He’s just 23 years old and coming off of his first All-Star nomination.

The Suns have been one of the worst NBA teams over the last decade, and as things stand, aren’t getting any better. It makes sense that their franchise face would be frustrated.

He’s averaging 26.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds in year five with the Suns. But is he the kind of talent that would interest the Heat, as they chase their next championship?

Pat Riley and the front office have been tied to names like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bradley Beal, and Victor Oladipo. Two of the three are better than Booker, and all three have more experience.

The third All-Star this Miami front office brings to South Beach won’t just be a talented player but will have to fit the mold and timeline of this team’s system and aspirations. A couple of red flags pop up when factoring a trade for Phoenix’s young franchise face.

For starters, Booker’s a shooting guard, one of the more depth prone positions on the Miami roster. They’ve not only got a number of capable players at that position but a potential young cornerstone as well in 20-year-old Tyler Herro.

Any deal for Booker would have to start with Herro, who’s going to be a hell of a lot cheaper and easier to keep in place until his contract runs out in 2023.

There’s also worries over how much the Phoenix guard needs the ball to be productive. This Heat roster thrives on their willingness to share the ball. Booker’s posting a 29.5 percent usage rate this year as the number one option for the lowly Suns.

Per NBA.com, Miami ranks fifth in assists per game ahead of the NBA’s restart. While Booker’s averaging over six dimes a night, he’s also taking 18 shots a night. How does that fit onto a team with so many mouths to feed and an already unselfish mindset?

Jimmy Butler’s shown the willingness this season to give up shots to his teammates if it’s for the betterment and success of the team. But Herro, Robinson, or even Kendrick Nunn? Good luck.

The Miami Heat are going to pull the trigger on some deal and add another All-Star to this roster. But as Devin Booker’s name begins to capture trade headlines, consider them uninterested.
