The Miami Heat will not be starting Kendrick Nunn in their first-round playoff series against Indy. Is that a massive void and opportunity for Tyler Herro?
The Miami Heat are getting set to tip-off their first-round playoff series with one of their rivals in the Indiana Pacers. Heading into this first-round series, there is plenty of juice as the teams had a heated matchup earlier in the season, only to meet each other twice over both of their final three games of the year.
While there is sure to still be some energy left over from the fiasco, which should only help fuel them both during this series, Jimmy Butler has said that his beef with T.J. Warren doesn’t matter anymore right now. It is all about winning at the highest level with Jimmy right now it seems and that’s what you love to see and hear.
That was one tidbit of information that was cleared up for us in this most recent week, but it wasn’t the only tidbit. Here is another.
Usual Miami Heat starter throughout most of the regular season in Kendrick Nunn will come off the bench in the playoffs. Here’s why that could mean a huge opportunity for Tyler Herro, a player that we thought might be preparing for something special with the way he has looked in the buildup.
The Miami Heat have sent Kendrick Nunn to the second unit, likely meaning a Goran Dragic start. What’s that mean for Tyler Herro though?
While Goran Dragic, rightfully so, will probably draw the start in Nunn’s place, who will be the first guy off the bench for the Heat? Usually The Dragon, Herro has more than stepped up across the NBA restart scrimmage and seeding games, thus making him a prime option for that role.
You could also look at Herro as a potential starter, although unlikely based on everything we know about the Miami Heat, coach Erik Spoelstra, and Team President Pat Riley, still though, it’s possible. While we don’t count on that being that case, what we can look forward to is Herro filling that usual Dragic role.
That role is one of the super sixth man. This is a role where that guy is not only counted on to come in to be the point man of the second unit, in terms of basketball and simple group project terminology as the leader.
That guy is also typically the best scorer for the second unit, or at least, has been for the much of this season. Again, if what he has shown us in the games leading up to this point is any indication of what he can do in the postseason, then Tyler Herro as well, can be just that.
That is why Nunn’s postseason position of playing off the bench, thus likely creating a need for Dragic in the starting lineup and a void at the sixth man slot, should be a massive opportunity for Tyler Herro. It won’t be long now and we will get to see how or if he can take advantage of it.
