The Miami Heat have been linked to a few of the big men around the league. None of them fit though and the ones that do won’t be traded anytime soon.

The Miami Heat are fresh off of their first-round playoff series sweep of the Indiana Pacers. With a break in the Heat’s action until Orlando or Milwaukee can handle their business, it leaves us open to ponder upon other things.

With Jimmy Butler‘s latest shoulder injury, Goran Dragic‘s hopeful next deal with the Miami Heat, and the current potential deep playoff run always at the top of our minds, the only next thing chronologically while also being worth a conversation are potential offseason acquisitions and the rumors associated with them.

When it comes to the Miami Heat, those rumors are aplenty. Whether it be Victor Oladipo, Donovan Mitchell, or Bradley Beal, the Miami Heat have been linked to quite a few prolific guards.

They aren’t the topic of conversation here though. This conversation revolves around potential big men that have been linked to the Miami Heat, including the oh so ever-present Giannis Antetokounmpo.

There has even been chatter of a Joel Embiid deal, while LaMarcus Aldridge has also been linked to the Miami Heat. While there may be a few more than these, you also have to again mention Giannis Antetokounmpo in this lot.

While that may all sound good in theory, only one of those names would possibly work and it isn’t a natural fit there either. That would be Giannis Antetokounmpo, which we will touch on in a second, but neither of the other two other names mentioned are a fit alongside Bam Adebayo.

In fact, only a few other big men are a fit beside Bam and we will touch on that in a second as well. Why being “a fit beside Bam” is important here is because the Miami Heat aren’t and shouldn’t be looking to trade Bam Adebayo.

The Miami Heat may be in the market for another big man this offseason, but only a few truly fit beside Bam Adebayo.

They just shouldn’t. If you don’t believe me though, I’m not the only one with a finger on the pulse that thinks so. Here’s a tweet from another guy that follows this stuff closely, from Miami Heat insider, Greg Sylvander of Five Reasons Sports Network.

Ok, with that out of the way, let’s move back to why only Giannis would likely be an option beside Bam. It’s still forcing a square peg into a round hole there, but the “square peg” in this situation is one of the top three pegs in the entire set or league in this case.

You also take comfort in the fact that although his deep shot isn’t automatic, he shoots it well enough and he floats from outside in, thus not always needing to operate in the exact same spaces as Adebayo does to be his best self. I can’t say that for LA, Embiid, or any other big man in the league besides maybe two.

Promising to touch on those specific two bigs that would fit later on as well, here goes. Only a Jusuf Nurkic or Nikola Jokic type would work beside Bam. Not only have Jokic and Nurkic both proved that they can do it, by operating at a high level beside another big man and thriving but also because of their skillsets.

You trust both of them to be able to handle, create a play for themselves or others, and hit the long ball if you need them too. This is on top of the fact that they can do what they do as big men on the block and in the paint.

There may be a guy or so that I am missing besides that tandem, but that type of complete skillset is what it would take to play beside Bam Adebayo. That… or the sheer dominance that the Greek Freak can display.

Next. Here’s the thing with Jimmy Butler and the Milwaukee Bucks. dark

While the Miami Heat should and will most likely be looking to make improvements, don’t expect it to be a big name big and if so, only one with quite a bit of multipleness to his game. If it isn’t one of the ones mentioned here, it would be a total shocker but again and being that none of them seem readily available, that also seems unlikely.

That’s the read. This is why even if the Miami Heat are looking to add a big, only a few are in play because only a few big men really fit beside Bam Adebayo and what they try to do.
