Miami Heat: Even for Minnesota, this is a new level of dysfunction
The Miami Heat are in the postseason’s 2nd round, rolling, while the Minnesota Timberwolves… are not. How’d they recently become linked again though?
The Miami Heat are currently sitting comfortably in the Orlando bubble. Why comfortable, one might ask?
Well, you can look at it from three different vantages.
The first is that they aren’t that far from the friendly confines of their actual homes, relatively, as Miami is quite the hike from Orlando but not nearly as far as most others that are still there.
Second off, they’re in a pandemic-proof bubble in Florida for crying out loud and though it can get a bit hot and humid in the Sunshine State, it’s still beautiful for the most part.
Lastly, most of all, and that which stirs this whole drink of a vibe, is the fact that they currently sit with a 2-0 series lead in their second-round matchup against the supposed series and Eastern Conference favorites, the Milwaukee Bucks. Life is pretty good for the Miami Heat right now.
That still hasn’t stopped them from becoming a part of the fray though, some by their own volition and some otherwise. The total sum of the fray we speak of has everything to do with one of Jimmy Butler‘s former teams and it isn’t Chicago or Philadelphia.
Let’s just say that our friends over at Dunking With Wolves had a good time with this one.
Speaking to Sam Amick of The Athletic (subscription required) recently, Jimmy Butler made a few already known revelations, so to speak. He basically said how Bam and himself now laugh about past transactional chatter.
The Miami Heat have oddly been linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the media twice over the last few days. I surely hope it doesn’t rub off.
It mainly focuses on the fact that when there was actual traction on a deal to land Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves by the Miami Heat, Jimmy believes that Bam Adebayo was a part of that deal. He says that Bam was supposedly in the package that it would have taken to land him from Minnesota.
What’s also chuckle-worthy there is the fact that he notes that Adebayo had a ton to do with him wanting to come to Miami in the first place. That was earlier in the week, but then, more strange stuff was said.
In an appearance on an episode of JJ Redick’s The Old Man and The Three podcast, current Timberwolves guard, D’Angelo Russell, made one heck of a proclamation himself. He basically admitted to having a full-on basketball lust for our very own Bam Adebayo.
Well, perhaps a bit strong, but he did say that if he were a GM today tasked with choosing a guy to build around for the next 10 years, that his choice would be Bam. Here is a clip of the occurrence.
Well, what a week. When you’ve been linked to the Minnesota Timberwolves more than once in the span of a few days, you better check everything to make sure that everything is still intact. No shade, just being honest.
For peace of mind’s purposes though, let’s clear some things up. Even for Jimmy Butler, there is no world where I believe that Pat Riley would have considered moving Bam Adebayo.
The love seems too real for the guy from Riles. This isn’t to say that Pat Riley would have stopped trying to land Butler because well, he didn’t stop and he landed him, but it wouldn’t have happened in any fashion that might have taken losing Bam.
No way. You can’t make me believe it.
On a lesser magnitude of the actually matters Richter scale, good call D’Lo, but you can wake up now. There is also no world where I can see you playing with Bam in Minnesota, if that was your intention in the first place. (*wink wink).
So, smarten up and find a way to get to Miami at a fair rate or live without your basketball man crush. The choice is yours.
Either way though and with all of these new confirmations and tidbits of information, it’s still a bit awkward to think about. Even for Minnesota, it’s all a new level of dysfunction.
