Tyler Herro’s major performance might skyrocket his trading card value

Tyler Herro‘s 37 points on Wednesday night pushed the Miami Heat within one game of securing a spot in the NBA Finals. As a 20-year-old rookie, the ceiling is high.

Miami Heat fans will tell you this has been obvious. Throughout his rookie campaign, Herro has steadily been trusted with more responsibility, and that hasn’t stopped in the postseason as Herro has been taking on more of a ball-handling role especially with Kendrick Nunn having some struggles in the bubble.

After averaging 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in the regular season, he’s averaging 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the postseason.

Colloquially, Herro’s emergence has hit the mainstream with his boosted postseason play, as NBA fans at-large are now realizing just how special the young guard is. Miami hit big with the 13th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft when they took him out of Kentucky.

No doubt, Herro has a bright future ahead of him, but one niche market might benefit from his play as well.

Heat news: On Thursday, Tyler Herro basketball cards are exploding in popularity

When a player, especially a rookie, starts to show signs of stardom, their basketball cards tend to take on more trade value in the card collecting market. That much is true with Herro’s card so far on Thursday morning.

Consider this: On September 23, a Tyler Herro Panini Prizm Orange Cracked Ice Tyler Herro card (ungraded, “like new”) sold for $129.99 on eBay. Following Herro’s major performance last night, the same card with the same status (ungraded, “like new”) sold for $400.00.  That’s over a 200 percent increase overnight!

The first card’s auction ended after the game itself but was first listed before the performance.

As of the time of this writing (1 p.m. ET) there was also a Prizm Silver and Prizm Base, both ending within an hour and with a high bet of over $400.

While it’s anecdotal based on just two isolated sales, there’s no denying that the hype is real with Herro. One user posted on Reddit his Herro collection and was one of the top upvoted posts on the r/basketballcards subreddit today.

"Feels good to have invested early. HEAT NATION!!!!! from basketballcards"

There’s no telling how valuable these cards will get over time and if they will sustain, but it sure seems like Herro’s going to be a great player for a long time, and his trading card value will likely follow suit.
