The Miami Heat can award Dion Waiters a championship ring after THEY WIN the NBA Finals… if they feel up to it. They should.

The Trade

A huge part of why the Miami Heat are where they are right now is because of what Jae Crowder, Andre Iguodala, and yes, even Solomon Hill have given them since coming over in that midseason deal that saw James Johnson, Justise Winslow, and Dion Waiters leave Miami.

It’s likely that the Miami Heat could have found a way to get it done in any situation, but having Dion’s lofty contract on the books surely didn’t hurt their ability to be flexible there. Yes, he had nothing to do with it, actively, but passively his contract allowed the deal to happen.

That’s the third reason. Because without his contract on the books, we likely aren’t able to land those key pieces that have been so key for us during this run.

For what it’s worth, I think that Dion Waiters, Justise Winslow, and James Johnson should get rings. They all went through at least a good part of the rigors with this team.

That goes double for James Johnson and Justise Winslow. Also and on JJ, he won’t opt out of the $15 million he is due this season but if he were to somehow manage to be inclined to do so, I wouldn’t mind having him back.

His versatility, toughness, and defensive chops could have been used on this team and can still be used in the future. That’s neither here nor there at the moment, but was worth a mention since he came up.

In any situation, this has been my thoughts on the topic. The topic of if Dion Waiters should get a ring… WHEN the Miami Heat win the title. These were the three main reasons why.
