The Miami Heat and Pat Riley will surely look at all ways to get better, including free agency and the NBA Draft. The pick may be best as an asset though

While the Miami Heat continue to do battle in Orlando, it is up to the rest of the organization to figure how they can continue to get better and put themselves in a position to be right back here on next season.

With the NBA having to shuffle around and rearrange dates, target dates, and certain necessary events like free-agency, the NBA Draft, and the start of next season due to the world pandemic, things have become a bit jumbled. That doesn’t mean the business won’t be done though.

With that in mind, the Miami Heat have been linked to several different players throughout this season. One of those players is none other than Victor Oladipo of the Indiana Pacers.

Rumored to have wanted out of Indiana for some time now, we got another slice of confirmation on Monday. According to Jared Weiss of The Athletic, Oladipo does still indeed want out of Indiana.

With Dipo still having a year left on his current deal with Indiana, he would have to be traded in order to get out of Indiana at the moment. That’s where we loop back around to an earlier thought.

The Miami Heat own the 20th pick in this year’s coming NBA Draft. While there are some players in the draft and likely in that range that can help Miami or that Miami can help turn into big-time players, such as Kira Lewis of Alabama or Tyrese Maxey of Kentucky, no one in this draft can potentially give you what Dipo can give you over the next 3-4 years.

That is where we are headed next though. That is the “why” part of this equation.

Why is he the move to make, why he makes the most sense from an asset perspective, and why he makes the most sense from a basketball perspective? That is how we will begin to close here.
